Preparing Your Quilt

Step 1: Prepare Your Backing
-
Provide a well pressed backing.
-
If piecing the backing, sew the fabric pieces with a 1/2 inch seam allowance and press open to reduce the fabric bulk.
-
I prefer the seam to go horizontal on the machine but will work with a vertical seam provided the 1/2 seam allowance is used.
-
Square the backing, make sure it is at least 4" larger on all four sides of the quilt top.
-
Add a safety pin to the top left corner of the quilt so I know how to load it.
Step 2: Prepare The Quilt Top
-
Be sure all loose threads are trimmed from the quilt top.
-
Press it well.
-
Do not add extra embellishments like buttons, beads, crystals, etc. to your quilt top until it has been quilted.
-
Add a safety pin to the top left corner of the quilt so I know how to load it.
Step 3: Delivering the Quilt
-
Bring the backing and the quilt top, keeping them separate. If you are providing batting, bring that but do not sandwich your backing, batting and quilt top.
